Zillow doesn't actually have access to local MLS data. It gets its listing information second hand, which is why it isn't always very accurate. One study suggested that depending on where you live, anywhere between 20% to 40% of the listings on Zillow were no longer for sale or were misrepresented in some way.
First, I would like to point out that "Zestimate" isn't a real word. That should hint to the quality of the appraisal. Without a walkthrough of your home and limited knowledge of the area, it can only value homes in much the same manner as it made up the word Zestimate, it's software, not magic. Zillow is an incredible app, its ease of use and powerful features changed the whole game. That's why we used their app as a model for ours. But when you find a home on our app, we can we can sell it to you.
Zillow makes up for the lack of accurate data by producing a truly excellent search application. The developers at Zillow are some of the best and brightest, and of course, Zillow can afford them.
